NAEGA makes its services related to NAEGA Contracts available to everyone. NAEGA maintains a model contract for FOB (Free on Board) transactions at U.S. ports. In addition, under the NAEGA contract and provisions of the Grain and Feed Trade Association (GAFTA) model contract terms, a NAEGA committee investigates the merits of any application made to the Association by a shipper for the issuance of any certificate or for the furnishing of any information relating to strikes, riots, lockouts, and embargoes, or other conditions affecting his contract and to approve the issuance of certificates or cables pursuant to, and in accordance with, the rules adopted by the Association and the committee’s own rules of procedure. The NAEGA Bylaws provide for a Production Technology Committee with the duty to monitor and evaluate worldwide developments affecting the production and shipment of transgenic and gene-edited grain products and plant protection products and report to the Board of Directors its findings, conclusions, and recommendations. The committee is now working to identify issues and propose policy to the Board of Directors regarding the impact of new crop technologies on the export trade of grain and oilseeds.
The Board has currently provided direction to the Production Technology Committee: Request that Staff and the Committee work to consider and develop policy and action plans to address the following issues; Biosafety Protocol, Biotech Wheat, Adventitious Presence, Pharma / Industrial Crop regulation, EU Traceability, and Labeling. Staff is directed to provide necessary guidance, coordination, and facilitation of communication to complete the work in a timely fashion.
Only NAEGA Members have access to NAEGA Biotech Committee documents and meeting information. For information on how to apply for NAEGA membership, please see the membership page.
NAEGA’s Plant Biotechnology Information Exchange (PBIE) website and platform are used to convey information about plant biotechnology in various stages of seed development and use to produce certain crops. The intent of the PBIE is to provide information to support trade in the crops covered by the platform. Information used to populate the PBIE includes both commercial and regulatory information from around the globe. With the evolution of plant biotechnology and disparate regulatory and commercial responses, the PBIE distinguishes between transgenic technology (sometimes referred to as conventional biotechnology) and other genetic modifications including gene editing used to breed seeds.Â
Persons with access to the PBIE must observe limitations on use and sharing of the information. Access is provided by NAEGA and each NAEGA member may be provided access to the PBIE for up to five individuals. NAEGA does not warrant or guarantee the accuracy of the information provided in the PBIE and in accessing the PBIE you agree to be bound to and abide by the entire Terms of Use for this website found here.
If you are a NAEGA member and you would like information on how to obtain access, please contact Patrick Hayden at phayden@naega.org.
The NAEGA Grades & Inspections Committee considers such matters relating to grain trades and inspection as may be referred to it by the Board of Directors. The Committee has organized several Subcommittees including Sanitary and Phytosanitary, Ports, and Alternative Security Plan.
